What are the key features and performance improvements of Google's new Ironwood TPU?
Google's seventh-generation TPU, Ironwood, delivers unprecedented performance with 3,600 times better performance compared to their first publicly available TPU. These Ironwood TPU pods feature a staggering 42.5 exaflops of compute power (24 times more than the world's top supercomputer) with over 9,000 chips per pod, making it the most powerful chip Google has ever built. Along with this raw power, Google has improved energy efficiency by 29x. The Ironwood TPUs are designed to enable the next frontier of AI models, including advanced systems like Gemini 2.5, and will be available later this year.
