What is the current legal challenge facing Elon Musk's Doge team?

Thirteen Democratic states have filed a lawsuit seeking to block Elon Musk's Doge team, appointed by President Trump, from accessing government systems and data, as well as preventing them from firing employees at major agencies. The states argue that Musk's team is using government data to dismantle initiatives and direct mass firings, potentially putting educational and other public programs at risk. Currently, a US judge is expected to rule within 24 hours on this request but has expressed doubt about granting the states' requested restraining order. Meanwhile, another judge in Washington D.C. has already declined a similar request from unions and NGOs to block the Doge team from accessing records at the Department of Labor, Health and Human Services, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
